20th May 2020 will see the Construction Fire Safety Conference come to London alongside FIREX at the Excel exhibition centre. A recent spate of high-profile construction fires has raised questions about the efficacy of standards, guidance, insurance and risk management. Speakers from US and UK will explore best practice and challenge current thinking. The conference will be chaired by Martin Wilshire, Safety Director of Multiplex. Highlights of the programme include; US perspective from Ray O’Brocki of the US Construction Fire Safety Coalition, Industry stalwart Stewart Kidd will delve into ‘Special problems of construction fire safety management in high rise buildings’, Andrew Furness will reflect on CDM and the role or Architects. Prof. Ed Galea of Greenwich University will be reporting back on new research into evacuations from construction sites.
Conference Director Russ Timpson of the Tall Building Fire Safety Network commented ‘This is a very timely meeting of Construction Fire Safety Colleagues from across the UK, Europe and Internationally. Modern methods of construction, increased use of timber and new technology such as BIM require us to constantly revaluate our techniques and processes with regard to the risk of fire.
